It is not easy to lose fat and we all know that. Crash diets can bring about a temporary reduction in the layers of fat, but that is hard to sustain. Contrarily, the damage it does to the basic health is actually longer lasting. There are also some pills that claim to reduce weight in a painless manner. What they mean to say is that if you take those pills, you will not have to undergo any crash diet or exercise regimen; the drugs will quietly do their work.

Anti-obesity medications – an overview:

While this is good news for most of us, one is tempted to ask how such anti obesity medications actually work. The answer is simple. These drugs alter the basic system of the body by the following means

  • They may suppress the appetite and thus control the intake of calories.
  • They may also increase the body’s metabolism and thereby minimize storage of fats.
  • They may also interfere with the body’s ability to absorb certain nutrient. For example, such medications may block break down of fats and thus they prevent absorption of the same in the body system.

Apparently, these medications seem to be most effective ways to lose fat; but the side effect they may cause has not been studied fully. That is why it is important to see if the drug has been approved by FDA. Moreover, it is wiser to have such drugs prescribed by doctors. That way one can be sure that the side effects do not overshadow the benefit the drug is supposed to deliver.

A few words about body fat:

While some medication may help you to lose weight, the best way to burn fat is to undertake a four pronged strategy. It is also desirable that we recognize the fact that body fat is a part of our system and there is no way we can totally get rid of it and yet remain healthy.

Let us look into this aspect a little more closely. Body fat is biologically termed as adipose tissue. It is composed of different elements such as adipocytes, preadipocytes, fibroblasts, endothelial cells as well as other immune cells.   Its main function is to store energy in the form of lipids. It also acts as insulator and cushions the body against much potential harm. Primarily, the diet must include all kinds of nutrients that our body needs. When that happens, blood can no longer carry sufficient quantity of oxygen and metabolism is affected very badly. That is why one has to consume food rich in iron. Consumption of sufficient quantity of green tea can also help in fat burning process. If that is not possible; you can at least, drink plenty of water. It may seem unbelievable, but researches have shown that one can lose fat simply by increasing the intake of water by 1.5 liters a day.
